Why Stillness Is the First Step in Healing Your Mindset in Midlife
Nov 30, 2025Are you a woman over 40 or 50 who feels anxious, overwhelmed, or like life suddenly became "too much"? If so, you're not alone - and there is nothing wrong with you. Stillness may be the key shift you’ve been missing.
Stillness is Step One in my book, 5 Daily Shifts to Hear Your Calling and Heal Your Mindset, because it was the first step that changed my life.
How Breast Cancer Forced Me Into Stillness
Three weeks before my diagnosis, I prayed one of the most desperate prayers of my life — asking God to heal me from anxiety, fear, and worry.
I had lived in fight-or-flight for so long that I thought it was normal.
When the doctor said the word “cancer,” everything inside me went quiet.
Stillness wasn’t optional.
It was all I had.
And in that unexpected silence, I learned:
-
I can’t control outcomes.
-
I can only control how I walk through the storm.
-
God speaks when we finally stop running.
-
Healing starts in the quiet moments we resist the most.
The Lessons Stillness Gave Me
✨ Stillness helped me stop spinning.
Anxiety thrives on motion. Stillness interrupts it.
✨ Stillness helped me hear God.
When I quieted my thoughts, I could finally feel His presence.
✨ Stillness helped me feel my feelings.
I cried on hay bales, walked through woods, and let myself break open.
✨ Stillness helped me surrender.
I could no longer white-knuckle my way through life.
